Open thread: How are you feeling right now?

We’ve never done one of these before, but I’m guessing I’m not alone in struggling to stay off my phone / take care of myself at this moment. It’s not the first tragedy of the month or even week, but it’s a lot of compounding, and I find myself oscillating between feeling numb and outraged.

How do we hold space for our grief and anger while also caring for ourselves and the people in our lives?

Morgan Harper Nichols tells us to stay with the grief and anger and to remain troubled and open-hearted. How are you doing this? What does this look like for you?

I’ll go first: I’m going to walk my dog in the evening sun tonight. And then I’m going to sit down and start reading through my ballot to prepare for California’s primary election. I’m going to make myself dinner and give my body water, but then I’m also going to have a glass of wine, cry at the news, and donate to Everytown while feeling frustrated that I can’t do more.

How are you taking care of yourself right now? What are you feeling? This is a safe space and there are no wrong answers. Share below.
